Soft Landing

I thought I'd reopen this blog with a sweet story. Well, open this post in particular, but reopen the blog as a whole.

Have you ever created something for someone very specific in your life, and they end up being completely drawn to it? This morning I woke up to a very special artwork order. My mom ordered a piece I made with her in mind, though she didn't know it was made for her. Granted, I try to discourage her from spending money on things I would just give her (she's an amazing support in all ways), but I've learned it's important to let someone support you in any way they wish.

Anyway, here's the story behind this piece and why it was created with my mutti in mind.

I used to work at a crappy place that's only redeeming quality was the great group of coworkers. It came as no surprise when we were told our location was being shut down and we were out of a job. A shitty job is often better than no job, so we were all a little terrified. On our last day, a coworker stood up and addressed the rest of us. To paraphrase, he said,

"I don't know where we're all going after this, but I hope that each of you finds your way, and wherever you land, I hope that you land softly."

That was one of the most thoughtful things I'd ever heard.

Here's where the Mominator comes in. (She's got a lot of great nicknames). She's been through a lot in her days. If you know her, you know. I won't get into the details of her story since it's not mine to tell, though I doubt she'd mind. When I made this painting I was thinking of the rough patch she was going through, and I was honestly scared she may not make it out. All I wanted was to help see her through her struggles, and to watch her climb out of it. I didn't know if it would happen, but I hope that if it did, she'd have a soft landing. Long story short, she fought through it and got back on her feet, back in her life, and back to where she needed to be in her head and in her heart. I am proud of her every single day for being such a great support, for being such a strong force, and for helping herself and others land softly wherever they need to.

I hope that you and yours can do the same, especially now.
Land softly, my friends. And if your mom wants to buy the painting, let her buy the damn painting. She deserves to do whatever she wants.
