The Process A glimpse into a new work from start to finish Featured piece: "Honest Aspirations" Commission for Hawks Quindel, S.C. Madison WI 2019
1: We meet! We work together to figure out what you want and what your ideal timeline and budget would be. We laugh and drink coffee. The scheme starts brewing in my brain. I go get supplies.
2. Concept! Oh boy, those ideas have taken hold and I've made some mockups to figure out where I'm going with it. I probably make a dozen of these before I decide on a good idea. I drink more coffee. Much more coffee.
3: I paint! I bust out those previously gathered supplies, reference my notes and concepts, and get to it! I get excited, get painty, get angry and curse the day I started painting, listen to some jams, get nervous and forget that I know what I'm doing, get 30 different shades of messy, rethink my whole life, keep painting, love every breath I take while I'm doing it, even though I forget what my hands look like under all that paint... but I love every second of it. It's a lovely little hurricane in my head and in my studio.
4: It's done! I survived the process and came out a better person. I show it to you, and if you love it - we're golden! We wrap up the project, get it framed if you want, ship it to where you want, all that jazz. I secretly shed a tear or two, because I always get a little sad sending a new piece off to a new home. I pack up my supplies and put away my notes. Turn off my studio lights. Reminisce about how much fun I had. Grab another cup of coffee. Gear up for another project. Smile real big inside and out. I love every minute of this.
